CERL welcomes 2026 summer interns

In an interview with NPR, CERL Executive Board Member General Joseph Votel discusses the military situation in Iran as negotiations over ending the war continue. While the ceasefire seems to be holding politically, there have been incidents of both sides committing strikes against each other during the ceasefire. General Votel notes that the military has continued to do its job by enforcing the blockade of Iranian ports and by keeping up air surveillance of Iran’s military. It is up to the diplomatic forces of both sides to come to a longer-term agreement.

General Joseph L. Votel, U.S. Army (Ret.), is the former Commander of the U.S. Central Command. He is a Distinguished Military Fellow at the Middle East Institute and a member of the CERL Executive Board. Read his bio here.
