Researchers at Southern Illinois University (SIU) are leading an effort to change policy and remove barriers to treatment to the moral injuries of war caused to veterans. In a recent article on the University’s News site, writer Christi Mathis highlights the CERL-OUP publication “Preventing and Treating the Invisible Wounds of War: Combat Trauma, Moral Injury, and Psychological Health.” The edited volume, the 12th in a series between CERL and OUP, is co-authored by CERL Executive Board member Stephen Xenakis and lead author and SIU professor Justin McDaniel, and features many SIU faculty as contributing authors.

Brig. Gen. Xenakis is an adult, child, and adolescent psychiatrist with many years of clinical, academic, and management experience. He is the Executive Director of APPA, an advisor for Physicians for Human Rights and the Center for Victims of Torture, and an Adjust Professor at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.
