In a recent appearance on Fox News’s America Reports, CERL Executive Board Member Joseph Votel discussed new intelligence showing activity at Iranian nuclear sites and the role of the Bab al-Mandab Strait as a second chokepoint for global oil shipping. The retired general also addressed the claim that gaining nuclear weapons could actually make the region more stable, describing his view that Iran is the biggest source of regional instability even with its current capabilities.

General Joseph L. Votel, U.S. Army (Ret.), is the former Commander of the U.S. Central Command. He is a Distinguished Military Fellow at the Middle East Institute and a member of the CERL Executive Board. Read his bio here.
