Sailors aboard the USS Abraham Lincon reportedly jumped overboard amid worsening conditions on an extended 250-day deployment in the Middle East. CNN spoke with CERL Executive Board Member Brigadier General Stephen Xenakis about the strain an extended deployment can have on military service members and what can be done to support the welfare of service members.

Brig. Gen. Xenakis is an adult, child, and adolescent psychiatrist with many years of clinical, academic, and management experience. He is an advisor for Physicians for Human Rights and the Center for Victims of Torture, and an Adjust Professor at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He is also a member of the CERL Executive Board. Read his bio here.
