Following the JCPOA agreement that President Obama signed with Iran, Congress eventually passed the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act (INARA) in 2015. One stipulation of the law is that the president must submit any agreement on Iran’s nuclear program to Congress within five days and for 30 days after that submission, the president is prohibited from relieving statutory sanctions on Iran. CERL Advisory Council Member Orde Kittrie argues that the Trump administration has not abided by these provisions and urges Congress to take a more active role in the diplomatic process.
Orde Kittrie, an Arizona State University law professor and senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, previously served as the lead U.S. State Department attorney for nuclear issues. He is a member of CERL’s Advisory Council. Read his bio here.
