One of the issues that has received significant attention in the second Trump administration is the effort by the president to restrict birthright citizenship. CERL Affiliated Faculty Member Rogers Smith wrote a book on the subject in 1985 while he was a professor at Yale. Professor Smith spoke to CBS News about his thoughts on congressional powers to potentially alter birthright citizenship, as well as the citing of his scholarship by the Trump administration.
Rogers Smith is the Christopher H. Browne Distinguished Emeritus Professor of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania. He is also a member of CERL’s Affiliated Faculty. Read his bio here.
