In a recent escalation of tensions between the Trump administration and the AI Lab Anthropic, President Trump issued a directive ordering all federal agencies to refrain from using Anthropic’s products, and the Pentagon went a step further by labeling the company a “supply chain risk to national security” which could have serious implications for the company’s ability to do business with anyone who has a contract with the Department of War. CERL Affiliated Faculty Member Michael Horowitz spoke with William Brangham on PBS News Hour and Carolyn Beeler on Public Radio International’s show, The World, to discuss the situation. In a related conversation, Professor Horowitz also appeared on the ChinaTalk Podcast to discuss autonomous weapons and where the risks might lie with that technology.
Michael C. Horowitz is Director of Perry World House and Richard Perry Professor at the University of Pennsylvania. He is also a member of CERL’s Affiliated Faculty. Read his bio here.
