The Supreme Court is expected to decide four critical cases by the end of June 2026. The cases concern the Trump administration’s authority to remove a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, remove a member of the Federal Trade Commission, remove protected status for a number of immigrants from Haiti and Syria, and restrict birthright citizenship. CERL Affiliated Faculty Member Rogers Smith is quoted in a Newsmax article stating that birthright citizenship has long maintained strong bipartisan support. The author of this article speculates that the Trump administration is facing uphill battles in the cases involving birthright citizenship and the Federal Reserve Board.
Rogers Smith is the Christopher H. Browne Distinguished Emeritus Professor of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania. He is also a member of CERL’s Affiliated Faculty. Read his bio here.
